Sitrin Foundation Participates in “MV Gives” Day Sept. 20
Sitrin Child Care Center to Benefit
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2024) – MV Gives is a community day of online giving, sponsored by The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties Inc.
This year, the Sitrin Foundation has selected the Sitrin Child Care Center to be the recipient of funds raised that day.
Marc DePerno, vice president of the foundation and communications, said, “We know how important quality child care is for working parents. But at the same time, it is a costly program to administer, and there is seldom funding left for ‘extras.’”
Heather Galinski, program director, said the center needs new play equipment – especially for its outdoor play area. Years of play and exposure to the elements take a toll, and this equipment must be replaced.
The Child Care Center, located on the Sitrin campus, is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Early Childhood Services. It offers a total of 64 full-time slots for children ranging in age from six weeks to five years. The center provides professional, quality child care for the community, as well as the children of Sitrin employees.
“Our teachers and teacher assistants provide a nurturing and caring environment, while teaching the children through innovative activities and a variety of programming,” Galinski said. “The center also has a full-time cook, who prepares well-rounded lunches, as well as nutritious morning and afternoon snacks.”
The preschool class offers a kindergarten-readiness curriculum, so that each child is prepared to start elementary school upon “graduation.”
